Abstract
The main engine is the main component that has a very important role on board to support the operation of the ship so that the ship can carry out shipping activities properly. Main engine work is supported by several systems, one of which is a fresh water cooling system. The problem with the main engine cooling due to the rising temperature of the coolant fresh water. The main task of cooling fresh water is to remove or reduce heat generated from the fuel combustion process and friction between the piston and cylinder liner in the main engine. The fresh water cooling process which is in charge of cooling the cylinder liner on the main engine causes the temperature of the fresh water to increase, therefore the fresh water cooler needs to be cooled by sea water. Efforts are made by cleaning the cooler, maintaining the coolant pump pressure. Keywords : cooling system, temperature, main engine
