Abstract

The safety of souls at sea is given priority in the maritime world. This can be seen from the great attention of countries in the maritime world to jointly hold the International Convention on the Safety of Life at Sea in 1974 which became known as SOLAS 1974, in London-England. This convention then produces rules and regulations that are used as a reference for ships or shipping companies in protecting and protecting the lives of seafarers who work on ships. Work safety is an activity to create a safe and comfortable work environment. Work safety aims to prevent or reduce accidents and their consequences, to protect ship crews and to secure the ship from the dangers itself. To overcome this problem, it is necessary to have preventive measures that must be applied on the ship. Efforts or efforts that can be used, namely through good work safety efforts, in which work safety efforts are an activity aimed at reducing the occurrence of accidents and errors related to the type and environment of work. With proper safety measures and supervisory control, it is hoped that the risk of work accidents can be minimized or eliminated altogether. In particular, procedures and hazard warnings in the work area need to be properly understood by all crew members in carrying out their duties in order to minimize the occurrence of work accidents. The method used in this paper is to use the field research method with the results of the types of personal protective equipment in MV Sagar Manthan, the benefits and impacts of using personal protective equipment as well as how to improve the control of personal protective equipment and the interview method, namely by interviewing a chief officer. I. The results of this paper are to distinguish the types of personal protective equipment available in MV. Sagar Manthan, the functions and impacts arising from the use of personal protective equipment and the methods used to increase the use of personal protective equipment in MV.
