Abstract
Main engine is a machine that functions to convert mechanical power into driving force for the ship's propeller so that the ship can move. One of the supporting instruments for the main engine in order to operate optimally is a turbocharger, which functions to increase engine power and efficiency by increasing the pressure of the flush air entering the main engine cylinder. The research method that I use is a qualitative descriptive method, namely by describing and describing the object under study. 1) analyzing the factor of the decrease in flushing air pressure in the main engine, 2) the impact that occurs when the air pressure in the main engine decreases, 3) efforts are made to prevent the decrease in air pressure in the main engine. The results obtained from this study indicate that the cause of the decrease in rinse air pressure on the main engine is the imprecision between the bearing and the bearing housing on the turbocharger, the maintenance is not implemented according to the planned maintenance system on the turbocharger. The way to optimize the above problems is to ensure the alignment of the bearings using a dial gauge, periodic maintenance on the turbocharger to produce optimal air pressure into the main engine cylinder.
