Abstract

Stern Thruster is one of the new technologies that already exist today and as a supporting device for the Dynamic Position system. Stern Thruster has become a popular tool in marine vessels, offshore oil services, the use of this tool for oil drilling, distribution through ships, filling platforms and anchored to the dock. Stern Thruster / Tunnel Thruster is generally operated when docking and maneuvering. Equipped with a set of gears made of wrought steel to provide durability and good reliability. With 4 leaf propellers combined with a Hydraulic Power Pack system to change the propeller leaf drive direction. The operation of the Stern Thruster / Tunnel Thruster is a very important role. Operate is not just running, moving, but also responsible for travel. Because of its important role, care needs to be taken to protect and avoid damage to both components and other equipment related to Stern Thruster. Maintenance of the Stern Thruster machine can be done by treating the power pack hydraulic pump which functions as a liquid suppressor, treating the pipes used for the flow of liquid from the hydraulic pump to the propeller leaf, maintaining the electric current which is very important to move the Stern Thruster . The results obtained after conducting practical work on the operation and maintenance of the Stern Thruster machine routinely are expected to reduce the risk of damage to the components and extend the service life of the Stern Thruster which is useful to avoid accidents due to malfunctioning Stern Thruster.
