Abstract

The tank checking procedure is the main process undertaken prior to the repair of the problem tank. Checking is an action that a group of people perform to check something that aims to ascertain whether it can still work or not. The Indonesian Classification Bureau is an Indonesian-owned entity assigned as a commercial ship fleet operating in Indonesian waters. Standardization of classification is a reference used by the Indonesian Bureau of Classification to equalize the established rules for the process of repairing or pengkabel commercial vessels. The procedure of checking the tank according to the standardization of the Indonesian Classification Bureau there are several stages. The first stage is, the explanation stage where before the start of checking is done explanation to the crew of the ship covering all the rules set, the tools to be prepared, the tank to be checked, the repair period. The second stage is the supervisory stage which should be supervised in some tanks to obtain the tank that is not feasible to be used again, that is by testing the thickness of the tank and testing the tank leak. The last stage is implementation and monitoring. Before the tank checks, the most noticed is that the tank must be free of gas and safe to enter. The importance of improved tank loads in accordance with the standardization of the Indonesian Classification Bureau is to avoid leakage of tank cargoes which may cause spillage to other tanks and oil pollution in the sea.
