Abstract

Pollution is a matter that is prohibited in shipping activities, the lack of awareness and incompatibility between the rules and the anti pollution measures make the pollution of the sea increases. In this study used qualitative methods with observation approach and using documents and data related to the prevention and handling and take care of pollution due to oil spills on MT.TOWO-ARYO. Then it was found from the research that the effort of handling pollution caused by oil spill in MT. TOWO-ARYO is not optimal. Ineffective handling of oil spill contamination due to lack of understanding of each crew's job listed in the Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP), causing the process of handling pollution due to the oil spill to be slow and uncoordinated, not preparing SOPEP equipment before The loading and unloading activities resulted in the Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) aboard the ship not running optimally, lack of maintenance and procurement of Ship Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) equipment on board because it was seldom held on checking the number or spare part of Ship tools Oil Pollution Emergency Plan (SOPEP) on board the ship contained.in.Ship.Oil.Pollution.Emergency.Plan.(SOPEP).store..Based.on.the two result from the research, it can be concluded that the effort of handling pollution caused by oil spills on MT. TOWO-ARYO is not optimal. The effort that has been taken by the company and the captain for the crew of the skilled craft is to increase the exercises according to the actual circumstances, the direction in the safety meeting, and meet the ship operational equipment in accordance with the provision.
