Abstract

An engine cooling system is a system that works to keep the engine temperature in ideal conditions. Machine burning inside and outside the process of combustion to produce energy and the mechanism of the engine is converted into kinetic energy. The machine is not an instrument with perfect efficiency, heat of combustion everything is converted into energy, partly wasted through channel disposal and partly absorbed by the material around the combustion chamber. Machine with high efficiency has the ability to convert heat of combustion into energy that is converted into mechanical movement, with only partial Combustion process takes place continuously in the machine causes the machine in very high temperature conditions. Extremely high temperatures will resulted in the design of the machine becomes uneconomical, most of the machinery also are in an environment that is not too much to humanity that lowering safety factor. Extremely low temperatures are not too favorable in the process of working machines. The refrigeration system is used so that the engine temperature maintained at an ideal working temperature limit Cooling systems are used there are 2 kinds, namely: 1. Outdoor Cooling System A cooling system that is directly connected with the sea water. This system used sea water to cool the fres water which is then returned through the sea water over board, this process continous during the cooling process in need. 2. Cooling System Close Cooling systems using fresh water is circulated in a closed circuit to cool the components that need to be refrigerated. Then the fresh water is cooled by sea water, fresh water and then re-circulated to cool the components. The system is divided into two, namely: a. System independent Namely, where fresh water is used to cool each components is cooled separately, not together in a heat exchanger. b. The centralized systems Namely, where fresh water is used to cool the components, are collected to be cooled together, in a heat exchanger. The cooling system is designed with only one heat exchanger that is cooled by sea water, while for others, including jacket cooler water, lubricating oil, rinse air, fresh water cooled with low temperature. The cooling system of this type is very small equipment in direct contact with sea water so that the problem of corrosion can be reduced.
