Abstract

Fresh water generator is one of the most important tools on board. This is caused by the Fresh Water Generator (FWG) produce fresh water that can be used for drinking, cooking, washing and can even be used for used the machine engine air conditiner. In Fresh Water Generator fresh water is generally produced using evaporation method. So the fresh water is produced by evaporation of seawater by using heat from one of the heat sources. Generally the available heat source is taken from the main engine jacket water, which is used to cool the main engine components such as the cylindrical head, the liner and the temperature generated from the jacket water around 70 degrees Celsius. But at this temperature the water evaporation is not maximal, as we know that water intake occurs at 100 degrees Celsius under atmospheric pressure. So in order to produce clean water at 70 degrees Celsius we need to reduce atmospheric pressure, which is done by creating a vacuum in the space where evaporation takes place.
