Abstract
The cooling machine is an important thing to consider in supporting the smooth operation of the ship, especially food chillers. Where ingredients are the main need to improve the performance of all crew (ABK). In order for the food is feasible to be consumed then it takes a more appropriate treatment one of them through the process of cooling food in the engine cooling room. This observation I do in KM.MITRA KENDARI company owned by PT.SAMUDRA RAYA INDO LINES for twelve months. The test of this observation is to know about the food cooling system, the reason why the temperature of the food cooler chamber did not reach the specified temperature (slow condensation of condenser freon), as well as the maintenance of the food cooling machine system. The research method used in this research is descriptive method. Data collection procedures through observation techniques, interviews, and literature. The results showed that the main parts of the refregent system include: compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator. The temperature of the food cooling chamber does not reach the specified temperature (the slow condensation of the condenser freon) due to several things such as the occurrence of deposits on the surface of the condenser pipes and the presence of air in the condenser due to leakage at the plant. How to care cooling machine is to do the cleaning of dirt, sludge - deposit of mud and crusts that attach to the condenser pipes.
