Abstract
By using a propeller fix, power in all propeller load conditions cannot be fully utilized. This problem can be overcome by using a propeller whose leaves can be controlled (controlled), which is called Controllable Pitch Propeller or commonly known as CPP abbreviation. By using this type of propulsor, all engine power will be absorbed properly, even in different propeller load conditions. For example when the ship is in an attractive condition, moves freely, breaks the ice, or changes the condition of the ship's body, the weather, and the depth of the water. The components of the CPP are propeller hubs and their leaves, shafts with lubricating oil distribution boxes, hydraulic systems with oil tanks and pumps, and remote control systems. This type of propeller main control room is in the ship's navigation room. The design of the mechanism inside the propeller hub generally varies between each CPP manufacturer (Alfan, 2012). On the principle of working using a hydraulic system that is by transmitting oil fluid to a housing that is located on the propeller boss (blade), so that when flowed fluid in the forward direction then the oil will push the separator fin on the rotor and push it so that it rotates the propeller leaves with a certain angle , if the direction of flow is reversed, the leaf of the propeller will rotate towards the opposite. The causes of damage to the main shaft control pitch propeller are leakage in the stern tube oil seal, lack of lubrication in the main shaft control pitch propeller, high working hours on the main shaft.
