Abstract
This paper discusses damage, causes and maintenance of piston. Piston has a very important function on the machine. So that the ship can be used properly then maintenance on the main engine must be carried out routinely. Problems that occur on the main engine is damage piston, what can causes damage piston and how to repair piston. This is adopted by the author from the results of observations made by the author. The way to get data is to conduct interviews, observation, documentation and literature. From the results of the discussion carried out taking primary data by conducting field studies by doing it directly to the destination. The primary data is taken data from documents. While secondary data is taken from information and books, scientific journals, theses, etc. The observations on this paper that. The damage to the piston is caused due to overheating, the oil does not work properly, the fuel is of low quality and the fuel system is not normal. For this reason, routine maintenance and maintenance of the cooling system, lubrication and fuel system are required according to the manual procedure. Keywords: Piston, Maintenance, Damage.
