Abstract

The Cause And Troubleshooting Overheating Main Engine On the Ship TB. Alim 2 PT. KALTIM SHIPYARD Samarinda Overheating is a condition where the engine temperature increases above the working temperature. Overheating engine will cause the engine performancenot optimal and can damage other engine components. The characteristics of the overheating engine are the engine stops working, the alarm measuring device goes off, and a leak in the cooling system in the engine occurs. The problem of overheating can not be separated from the system performance on the engine. The cooling system aims to keep the engine temperature at the permissible level so that the engine temperature does not overheat and keep the engine operating continuously. This problem also occurs in the main engine on TB. Alim 2 belongs to PT. KALTIM SHIPYARD. Main engine on TB. Alim 2 is overheating due to lack of attention to the use of working hours of main engine components and cooling system components, especially water pump components. The main engine has a cooling water leak caused by damaged packing on the main engine cooling system because the engine temperature is overheating while the water pump is damaged in the impeller section. The results of this research are knowledge material in order to find out the causes and handling of overheating of the main engine. Key Word : Main Engine, Overheating
