Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between ship operating costs and passenger capacity, as well as to identify the components of operating costs incurred in the operation of KM. Kirana III owned by PT. Dharma Lautan Utama, Semarang Branch at Tanjung Emas Port. The research problems are: (1) whether the number of passengers affects the ship’s operating costs, and (2) what components of operating costs are incurred in the ship’s operation. The research method used is descriptive with a case study approach. Data were obtained from company documentation and direct observation, then analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively to determine the relationship between passenger capacity, revenue, and operating costs. The results show that the number of passengers has a significant effect on the efficiency of operating costs. In May 2025, the number of passengers reached 3,454 people with a revenue of IDR 1,193,190,000. In June 2025, the number decreased to 3,012 people with a revenue of IDR 1,061,750,000, and in July 2025 decreased again to 2,928 people with a revenue of IDR 1,022,602,500. This decline in passengers directly affected the average cost per passenger. In addition, the operating cost components of KM. Kirana III consist of berth fees, pilotage fees, and towage fees. The total operating costs in May 2025 amounted to IDR 264,005,126, increasing in June to IDR 321,350,740, and slightly decreasing in July to IDR 307,248,238. These findings indicate that operating costs are strongly influenced by berthing duration (etmal), ship size (GT), and the frequency of using port services. The study concludes that optimizing passenger capacity and controlling operating costs are key factors in improving the efficiency of passenger ship operations. Keywords: Operating Costs, Passenger Capacity.
