Abstract
This study aims to analyze the strength of pipes used in the process of unloading fuel oil (BBM) using ASTM E23 testing. The study was conducted at PT. Multi Trading Pratama Gresik, with the object of research being carbon steel pipes commonly used in loading and unloading systems. Testing methods include Non Destructive Test (NDT) with the Liquid Penetrant method to detect surface defects, Charpy impact tests to measure material absorption energy, and microstructure observations to see the dominant phase in the pipe. The test results showed that no defects were found in the welded joints (good/ACC). The average impact toughness value of 3 specimens with temperatures of 30°C, 100°C, and 150°C was 23.9 joules/mm², with a ductile fracture type. The microstructure shows the dominance of ferrite and pearlite phases, indicating that the pipe material is low carbon steel. The conclusion of this study is that carbon steel pipes have adequate strength for the unloading process, and meet the safety criteria in terms of toughness and structural integrity.
