Abstract

Windlass or anchor machine is a system of anchor cranes mounted on ships for the purpose of lifting and extending anchors and anchor chains through hose pipe anchor tubes. The windlass engine shall be located on the bow deck of the ship so as to facilitate the operation of lowering and raising the anchor. Some of the common damage that occurs in the anchor engine include : Broken anchor engine gear, anchor engine cooling is not running normally, hydraulic oil mixed with water, oil volume is not appropriate, hydraulic oil overheated. Damage to the leaking hose and clogged hose. The purpose of writing this paper is to find out the consequences of performing windlass maintenance, to find out the damage, and to find out how to repair the windlass components. The author uses qualitative data types in this paper. The data is taken when the author had the observations on the KN. SAR SADEWA 231. The methods are used on this paper are the Observation Method, Interview Method, and Library Method. The observation method for example is preparing knowledge about how to maintain and operate the anchor machine (windlass) on KN.SAR SADEWA 231. The results of periodic maintenance on ships show that periodic maintenance can prevent damage in the short term, maintenance is more scheduled and regular without waiting for damage to the windlass. When carrying out practice in Indonesian Basarnas, the ship being surveyed uses a hydraulic system / drive windlass which is used more safely and efficiently in operation and maintenance. Keywords: Windlass, hawse pipe, hydraulic drive.
