Abstract
Cleaning tanks or tank leaching is a very important activity carried on board the tanker, tank cleaning is done to prepare the cargo tank to be completely ready for the different types of cargo loaded with the cargo had been unloaded in ports unloading. Because in the oil tanker operations, the amount of cargo and some kind of charge is determined by the charterer in accordance with the requirements of the charterers. So in this case the vessel is chartered tool then load space ship must prepare well so that at the time of loading and transporting loads can run without these constraints include cargo damage. Damage to this charge should be avoided by preparing the cargo well by doing cleaning tank properly and according to the procedure that is right and good. Work tank cleaning on board requires expertise and skill of the crew in this work, because of the skill crews in the use of equipment for tank cleaning that are above the vessel must be used properly and the maximum, a maximum here is the use according to function well and properly, and this is very determine the success of the work of the cleaning tank. Data retrieval method used in the taking of the data used in this research is the premier data and secondary data. This research was conducted while the outhor carry out of the sea in ship MT. NARIVA. One cause less experience crews on duty due has never worked / duty on oil tankers. Given this is a constraint on the activities of cleaning tanks, because the crew had to learn how the tools are used for cleaning tanks. The problem of the skills of the crew can be improved in various ways. The things that can improve the skills of the crew onboard the vessel can be done in the following way, given familiarization and understanding of the procedure of cleaning tanks in tankers.
