Abstract

Fresh Water Generator is one of the auxiliary machineries that supports ship operatons to produce fresh water, by evaporating sea water in the (evaporator). The evaporation of sea water utilizes heat from the main engine cooler. In the supply of fresh water on board, often some obstacles occur due to the influence of the Fresh Water Generator components which are not good enough. For example the non-smooth flow of fresh water and sea water in each pipe, insuitable fresh water and sea water temperatures before and after passing the Fresh Water Generator, in sufficient vacuum in the evaporator room, salt clumps/deposits on the evaporator plate at fresh water generator installactions and others. of course it affects the quality of fresh water produced. So that there is damage to the parts of the Fresh Water Generator, of chourse it affects the quality of the fresh water produced. The purpose of this paper is to fine out and how to overcome why a vacuum is not reached, the low sea water pressure from the ejector pump, and the presence of salt deposits on the evaporator plate. This scientific writing uses qualitative and quantitative writing types. Data are all facts and figures that can be used as material for compiling information, according to the source of the collection, there are two types, namely primary and secondary data. The data collection methods used by the writer in conducting this observations is in the form of observation, interview, dokumentation. The result of Periodic maintenance can handle the reduction of fresh water generator vacuum, low sea water pressure from the ejector pump causes a decrease in fresh water production, and cleaning the evaporator plate on the Fresh Water Generator.
