Abstract

Heater or Thermal oil heater (TOH) is a engine which using thermal oil fluid or oil. TOH as use as means of heat conductor. TOH can work at temperatures of 300ᵒC or more with very low pressure. The thermal energy from thermal oil fluid or oil is then used for the terpentine distillation process. Based on the observations from practice project field, it is found that the Thermal Oil Heater (TOH) which causes the temperature of the Thermal Oil Heater (TOH) to be suboptimal for the process of terpentine distillation. The purpose of this paper is to find out the causes of the less optimal work of Thermal Oil Heater (TOH) in oil heating and to know the efforts that must be made so that heat absorption can reach the desired temperature. This papers is using observation and interview methods. Interviews were conducted directly with supervisors and operators. Observations were made at Pemalang PPCI where the author practiced for 3 months, which used scientific journal articles. The results of the discussion from this paper show that the temperature of the thermal oil heater is not optimal due to the large amount of soot ash deposition. It caused suboptimal of the heat absorption, incomplete ignition, and dirty filters. Keywords: Thermal oil heater, temperature, fuel.
