Abstract

The steering engine is one of the auxiliary machining systems used for ship steering systems. to keep the operation of the ship running smoothly when the ship sailed. The background of writing this paper is the non-optimal performance of the hydraulic pump on the steering machine, so the pump cannot suck as usual. The formulation of the problem in this study is that a leak in a hydraulic pump can cause damage or jams in the pump components so that the pump does not work well. To find out prevention efforts in this problem work practices are carried out in. SS Barracuda for 4 months. The conclusion of this study is that the result of the lack of maintenance on the steering engine causes interference or damage that causes the hydraulic pump system cannot work optimally. Steering engine maintenance methods must be carried out properly and in accordance with the manual book that has been provided in the ship so that the condition of the components in the steering engine assisting engine can be optimized. Optimization of the steering engine can be avoided. The results of the writing are based on existing problems that can maximize the performance of the steering engine and maintenance of hydraulic pumps to produce good quality to support the smooth work.
