Abstract
The International Convention for Marine Soul Safety adopted the ISM Code in 1994 and was inputted into Chapter IX. In 1998 many commercial shipping societies were required to conform to the ISM code. In 2002 almost all international shipping societies were required to comply with the ISM code. This research was conducted by using descriptive quantitative method. Sempel from this research MT. Project Link. Data collection techniques in this study were conducted by direct observation. The technique of data testing using hypothesis test technique. In order to comply with the ISM code, each ship class must have a working safety management system (SMS). Each SMS consists of the following elements. Commitment from top management, manual top-level policy, manual procedures documenting what is acted on board, Internal and External Audit to ensure the ship does what is documented in the procedure manual, a land-based person to serve as a link between the ship and the beach staff and To verify the implementation of SMS. A system to identify where actual practices do not meet the persons documented and to carry out corrective action related, regular review manager. Also, ships shall be maintained in accordance with relevant provisions and regulations and with additional requirements which may be established by the company. Each ISM ship is compliant in the audit, first by the flag state (initial survey) and then between two and three years of first anniversary by the flag state (Intemediet Survey) maritime administrations to verify the compliance and effectiveness of their safety management system. After the SMS is ferified and it works and is implemented effectively, the ship is issued an awards management certificate. Comments from auditors and / or audits of bodies and of vessels are submitted from SMS by head office. Keywords: Management, SMS, Work safety
