Abstract
The purpose of cargo handling is to move the cargo from vessel and otherwise. for common people it seems so simple because we can only see this activity outside of the port without knowing how the regulations it should be. the purpose of this papers is to explain cargo handling in Batam' island Free Trade Zone (FTZ) using container vessel named MV. Sally Fortune. For gathering the information, the writer used descriptive method. The purpose of this is to gather information about an activity based on everything that happened without any bias. While on the field, the writer used 5 methods. There are observing, questioner, interview, documentation, and library research. From these activities, we can conclude that cargo handling is divided into three steps. The first one is doing report to the customs about cargo that going into free trade zone area, having permit for cargo handling at the dock, and the last one is cargo handling process at the dock.
