Abstract
Ship repair activities in shipyards involve various potential hazards that may affect workers’ safety and health, particularly in fitting, welding, and blasting activities. This study aimed to identify hazards, assess risk levels, and determine occupational safety and health (OSH) control recommendations using the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) method. The study was supported by theories of Occupational Safety and Health (OSH), risk management, JSA, and the hierarchy of risk control. A descriptive approach was applied with semi-quantitative risk assessment based on likelihood and severity values using the AS/NZS 4360 risk matrix. Data were collected through field observations, interviews with workers and relevant informants, and a review of company documents and JSA forms. The results identified 19 hazards, consisting of 6 hazards in fitting, 7 in welding, and 6 in blasting activities. Overall, 7 hazards were categorized as Extreme (36.84%), 6 as High (31.58%), and 6 as Medium (31.58%), with no Low-risk hazards identified. Extreme risks were most frequently found in welding and blasting activities. Data triangulation confirmed the research findings through observations, interviews, and document reviews. Therefore, JSA can be used as a basis for determining risk control priorities and improving occupational safety in ship repair activities.
