Abstract
Bulk cargo handling requires high precision in tonnage calculation using the Draft Survey method. This study aims to analyze the comparative accuracy of draft survey calculations between a Bulk-Loaded General Cargo Ship and a Bulk Carrier, and to identify the correlation of hull architecture with cargo discrepancy. The research method uses a comparative quantitative approach by processing Initial and Final Draft Survey data, hydrostatic tables, and ship particulars. The results showed that the use of the Bulk-Loaded General Cargo Ship produced a critical discrepancy of +108.152 MT (3.605% error margin), far exceeding the international tolerance limit (0.5%). Conversely, the Bulk Carrier showed high precision with a deviation of only +0.485 MT (0.0008% error margin). The high error in the General Cargo Ship is caused by point loading due to the lack of selftrimming facilities, which triggers artificial sagging stresses and breaks the tolerance limit of the Quarter Mean Draft (QMD) algorithm. This study recommends restricting the operation of general cargo ships for pure bulk commodities to prevent financial losses due to fictitious cargo. Keywords: Draft Survey, Cargo Discrepancy, Hydrostatics, Hull Deflection, Quarter Mean Draft.
