Abstract

The shipyard industry involves various work activities with potential hazards that may cause occupational accidents and health problems. This study aimed to identify potential hazards, assess occupational Health and Safety (H&S) risk levels, and determine appropriate risk control recommendations for docking, blasting, welding, painting, and engine repair activities in the repair of cargo and passenger ships at PT Janata Marina Indah Semarang. This study employed a descriptive design with a qualitative approach supported by semi-quantitative assessment using the Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment, and Risk Control (HIRARC) method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Five informants were selected purposively based on their direct involvement in each work activity. The results identified 42 potential hazards, consisting of 2 Extreme risks (4.76%), 24 High risks (57.14%), 16 Medium risks (38.10%), and no Low risks. The highest risk was identified in blasting with a Risk Rating of 25, while welding had a Risk Rating of 20. Risk controls were recommended based on the hierarchy of controls, including elimination, substitution, engineering controls, administrative controls, and personal protective equipment. The application of hirarc can serve as a basis for prioritizing risk controls and evaluating occupational Health and Safety performance in ship repair activities.
