Abstract

The role of Marine Inspectors is essential is ensuring that ships operating in the Benoa Port area meet the established safety and operational standars. Therefore, improving the quality of human resources and supporting facilities is necessary to further optimize the ship seaworthiness process. This study provides recommendations for KSOP to enhance training for Marine Inspectors and update the supporting facilities for ship inspection. This research aims to analyze the role of marine inspectors in the process of examining ship seaworthiness at the office of the harbourmaster and class II port authority (KSOP) of Benoa Bali. Ship seaworthiness is a crucial aspect in ensuring shipping safety and protection of the marine environment. Marine Inspectors act as the party responsible for assessing and ensuring that ships that will operate meet the specified technical and operational requirements. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative approach, where data is obtained through in – depth interviews with Marine Inspectors and related parties at (KSOP) class II Benoa. Additionally, direct observation of the ship inspection process was conducted to obtain more comprehensive. The result that Marine Inspectors at KSOP class II Benoa play a vital role in the ship seaworthiness process. They are responsible not only for conducting technical inspections but also for providing recommendations for improvements if discrepancies are found in the inspected ships. The inspection process includes document verification, physical inspection, and operational testing of the ship. However, the study also identifies several challenges ,suc as limitations in human resources and adequate facilities, which may affect the effectiveness of Marine Inspectors work.
