Abstract
The exhaust valve is one of the important components in the main engine that functions to open and close the exhaust gas line from the cylinder combustion chamber. This component plays a role in ensuring the combustion process runs optimally and disposing of the remaining combustion results at the right time. The performance of the exhaust valve has a great influence on combustion efficiency, engine performance, and the level of emissions produced. A problem that often occurs is an increase in exhaust gas temperature due to leaks in the valve system. The leak caused the heat from the combustion chamber to be uncontrolled so that the exhaust gas temperature increased beyond the normal limit. This condition can result in damage such as wear, material deformation, and decreased engine performance. The research method used is a descriptive method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, documentation, and literature studies. The results of the analysis show that the maintenance of exhaust valves and suction valves is very important in maintaining the performance of the ship's main engine. The conclusion of this study is that scheduled maintenance, the use of appropriate spare parts, and periodic monitoring of the condition of the machine are able to improve efficiency, maintain the stability of the machine's work, and extend the service life of the components.
