Abstract
This study aims to analyze the maneuvering performance of a tugboat in assisting the berthing operation of MT. Nurhasanah Lima, a 2,014 DWT tanker, at Wilmar Gresik Special Terminal. A quantitative descriptive method was employed, with data collected through field observations, interviews, documentation, literature review, and the analysis of primary and secondary data. The study evaluated several key performance indicators, including Response Time, Service Time, propulsion efficiency, Brake Horse Power (BHP), Bollard Pull, and operational costs. The results indicate that the tugboat, equipped with a 1,500 HP engine and a 25-ton Certified Bollard Pull, met the applicable operational standards. The average Response Time and Service Time were 53.75 minutes and 43.25 minutes, respectively, while the average propulsion efficiency reached 85.4%. The average BHP requirement was 1,318 HP, and the average Measured Bollard Pull was 21.35 tons, exceeding the minimum requirement for servicing a 2,014 DWT vessel. The total operational cost for eight vessel calls amounted to IDR 52,842,090, with an average cost of IDR 6,605,261 per call. The findings suggest that the utilization of a single tugboat is both effective and economically efficient for berthing operations under normal to moderate environmental conditions. However, additional operational support is recommended during strong current and high wind conditions to maintain safety and operational efficiency.
