Abstract

General cargo handling activities at the Batu Ampar Terminal Warehouse BP Batam have an important role in supporting the smooth distribution of goods at the port. This study aims to determine the process of handling general cargo, the equipment used, the obstacles faced, and the documents required in warehouse operational activities. The research method used is a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The results showed that the cargo handling process includes receiving, unloading, sorting, storage, monitoring, and dispatching activities. The equipment used includes forklifts, hand pallets, cranes, and trolleys. The obstacles encountered include limited warehouse capacity, delays in loading and unloading activities, weather factors, and limited operational equipment. The documents used include Bill of Lading, Delivery Order, cargo manifest, and delivery note. Based on the results of the study, general cargo handling activities at the Batu Ampar Terminal Warehouse BP Batam have been carried out quite well. However, improvements in facilities and operational systems are still needed so that loading and unloading activities can run more effectively and efficiently.
