Abstract
Boarding agents are part of a ship agency that plays a crucial role in supporting the smooth operation of ships at port, particularly during the loading and unloading process. The boarding agent's role is to represent the ship owner, responsible for delivering information, managing documents, and fulfilling the ship's needs. Furthermore, boarding agents also act as a liaison between the ship, the stevedoring company, and the port institution to ensure all activities are carried out in accordance with established procedures. The purpose of this study is to understand and describe the role of boarding agents in supporting the loading and unloading process managed by PT. IDT Trans Agency, Surabaya Branch. The method used in this study is qualitative with data collection techniques through observation, interviews, and documentation. The collected data are analyzed descriptively to reflect the actual conditions in the field. The findings of this study indicate that boarding agents play a crucial role in supporting the smooth loading and unloading process through effective coordination, monitoring, and communication. Boarding agents can reduce operational obstacles such as delays, procedural errors, and miscommunication by conducting direct supervision on site. Furthermore, the role of boarding agents also impacts the efficiency of ship docking times, the quality of company services, and customer satisfaction. Based on the research findings, it is recommended to improve the quality of human resources, utilize information technology in monitoring systems, and continuously improve coordination between relevant parties to ensure more effective loading and unloading processes.
