Abstract

The causes of damage and repair efforts of the hydraulic Windlasss machine on board Cavalo Marinho 17 were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative research method supported by scientific journals and relevant technical references, with data obtained through direct observation during on-board practical training and a review of publications related to ship Windlasss and hydraulic systems. The results indicate that Windlasss malfunctions involved the hydraulic system, braking system, and wildcat component, where hydraulic system problems included hydraulic pipe leakage, clogged hydraulic oil filters, reduced performance of the hydraulic oil cooler, malfunctioning Windlasss control, and hydraulic pump damage, leading to decreased working pressure and overall system performance. Furthermore, the Windlasss braking system did not operate optimally due to brake lining wear, improper adjustment, and corrosion effects from the marine environment, while wildcat damage was caused by gear tooth wear due to repeated use, incompatibility between the anchor chain size and the wildcat, and exposure to corrosive marine conditions. Repair efforts were conducted based on maintenance and repair procedures recommended in technical manuals and scientific journals through inspection, cleaning, replacement of damaged components, and system re-testing, resulting in the hydraulic Windlasss machine being able to operate normally, safely, and in accordance with ship operational standards.
