Abstract
This study discusses the problems related to rudder damage on MV. TANTO RAYA at PT. Janata Marina Indah Semarang. The common problems found include rudder stock wear, bearing damage, bent rudder shaft, fouling, and corrosion, which may disrupt ship operations and reduce navigation safety. The purpose of this study is to identify the causes of rudder damage and to determine the proper methods of repairing and maintaining the ship’s rudder in order to ensure optimal performance. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative method with data collection techniques consisting of observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study during the land practice program at PT. Janata Marina Indah Semarang. The results show that the repair process includes rudder removal, bearing inspection, shaft measurement, and material addition to damage parts. In addition, routine maintenance such as preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance can improve rudder performance, extend service life, and reduce the risk of damage during ship operations. The conclusion of this study is that regular and proper rudder repair and maintenance can support smooth ship operations, improve maneuverability, and minimize damage to the ship steering system.
