Abstract
Container loading is a primary activity in port operations that plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth flow of logistics. This paper discusses the factors causing delays in container loading activities on board MV Ever Consist at Tanjung Emas Port, Semarang, handled by PT Evergreen Shipping Agency Indonesia Semarang Branch. This paper is based on observations conducted during Field Practice (PRADA), supported by observation, interviews, documentation, and literature study. The container loading process includes several stages: container arrival, document inspection, weighing, stacking in the container yard, transportation to the dock, loading onto the vessel, and on-board arrangement. The delays in loading activities are caused by limited human resources, suboptimal performance of stevedoring workers, insufficient loading equipment, unfavorable weather conditions, and operational equipment breakdown. These delays result in increased waiting time, cargo distribution delays, vessel queue accumulation, and operational losses. Efforts to overcome these delays include improving operational planning, optimizing equipment utilization and maintenance, enhancing coordination among stakeholders, and conducting periodic evaluations. Therefore, improving operational readiness and effective coordination is essential to minimize delays in container loading activities at the port.
