Abstract
Welding is a joining technology that is widely used in various industries such as automotive, shipbuilding, oil and gas, and industrial plants. Welding is considered an energy-intensive manufacturing system and requires study from a sustainability perspective that includes economic, environmental, and social. Therefore, research on welding needs to be carried out to improve the quality of weld results, expand the scope of use of welded joints, and produce reliable and safe construction. This research uses an experimental method to determine the causal relationship between two factors that influence welding results, namely electric welding and acetylene welding. Tests are carried out in the laboratory to analyze the effect of welding results which include tensile strength, elongation and the type and size of defects. The test result data was analyzed using a quantitative approach using mathematical calculations. The research results show that electric welding has better connection quality compared to acetylene welding. In electric welding, the specimen shows a pint yield between 10,045 N to 15,476 N and a stress yield between 197,663 Mpa and 304,527 Mpa, while acetylene welding shows varying values with the quality of the joints tending to be lower, using Magnetic Particle Testing (MPT) and liquid penetrant testing ( LPT) confirms that electric welding produces smaller defects than welding acetyline, with minimal cracking or porosity. On the other hand, acetylene welding shows significant defects such as cracks and large porosity, which reduce the quality of the joint. Keywords: Electric welding, Acetylene welding, Connection quality, Welding defects
