Abstract

The freshwater cooling pump is one of the auxiliary aircraft that supports the operation of the mother engine on board the ship by using fresh water. The freshwater cooling pump serves to cool the mother engine on the ship. Because an operating engine will burn, so it will cause heat or radiation if the cooling system is not optimal, the engine temperature will increase, and affect the material. The purpose of this study is to be a comparison material for readers to be able to find out the suboptimal factors of the work of the freshwater cooling pump, know the efforts that must be made so that the fresh water cooling pump works perfectly, know the lack of maintenance of the freshwater cooling pump on the performance of the mother machine. The methods carried out in this study are observation methods, interview methods, and literature methods. The factor that affects the suboptimal work of the freshwater cooling pump is that there is a leak in the suction vessels that will cause air to enter the suction vessels. This is because the incoming air results in a space that is not filled by compressive vessel fluid will reduce the amount of fluid entering the pump. These results can be drawn conclusions that can be used as guidelines for carrying out routine and wellplanned maintenance so that there are no leaks in the suction vessels in the freshwater cooling pump.
