Abstract

The injector is one of the main components found in the main propulsion engine, particularly in the engine's fuel system. The fuel injector serves as the tool and medium for atomizing and spraying fuel into the cylinder, playing a crucial role in supporting the smooth operation of the combustion system within the main engine. The injector functions to atomize the fuel from the fuel injection pump into each cylinder, sequentially according to the firing order, at the end of the compression stroke, when the piston is 14° before Top Dead Center (TDC). The purpose of this paper is to provide a comparative reference for readers to understand how to prevent injector damage in diesel generator engines, to identify the causes and consequences of injectors not functioning optimally, to explore injector repair and maintenance procedures, and to examine the impact of injector maintenance on the diesel generator engine at PT. New Suburtex, ensuring that fuel atomization is perfected. The methods used in this study include observation, interviews, and literature review. The results of this research indicate that the causes of injector malfunctions and damage, which affect the fuel atomization process and combustion system in the combustion chamber, are the dogging of the nozzle holes and fuel dripping from the nozzle tip, resulting in incomplete combustion and the appearance of black smoke from the exhaust due to dripping fuel. From these findings, it can be concluded that regular and well-planned maintenance is necessary to ensure that the fuel combustion process is optimal.
