Abstract
The city of Semarang is the largest city in Central Java Province as well as being the main key in the shipping sector with Tanjung Emas Port as its center. Work on ships is always fraught with various risks that threaten the safety of life, property and the environment. This is not just a mere statement or assumption, but has clearly been happening since the emergence of shipping activities until now. SAR (search and rescue) are activities and efforts to search for, help and save human lives who are lost or feared to be lost or in the face of danger and disasters such as shipping, aviation and disasters which are supported by radar navigation tools. Radar navigation equipment is an effort to minimize loss of life in the event of an accident, therefore it is necessary to maintain and operate appropriate navigation equipment in emergency warning operations. To find out how to maintain and operate radar navigation equipment, research needs to be done. The data collection method that the author uses in this scientific paper uses a descriptive observation method with a qualitative approach, namely observations that explain the cause and effect of an event, as well as explaining the entire process from the beginning of the event until the impact occurs. from the event. There are many processes and methods in operating and maintaining the radar on the Sadewa 231 Semarang SAR Ship. Keywords : Operation and maintenance, navigation tools, radar, BASARNAS
