Abstract
Some engine units have a power transfer system, namely a gearbox that functions to channel engine power or power to the ship's propeller, so that the unit can move to produce a movement, either rotation or shifting. The gearbox is a special tool needed to adjust the power or torque (moment/power) of the rotating motor, and the gearbox is also a tool for converting power from the rotating motor into greater power. There are several problems that include damage to the ship's gearbox that must be identified and must be resolved manually. Damage includes the heat of the gearbox due to lack of oil in the gearbox and damage to the gearbox cooling pump, there is also due to wear on the gearbox due to lack of checking on the ship's gearbox. The solution is to carry out periodic checks on the gearbox, which must be done carefully and overhaul to check for damage to the ship's gearbox. So that the ship runs smoothly. Data collection is carried out using two methods, namely the data type source method and the data collection method. The data type source method is obtained based on primary data and secondary data, while the data collection method includes: observation, interviews, document techniques, data collection time and library research. The following are the results of maintenance and repairs on the Gearbox, including: Worn input shaft due to lack of lubrication on the input shaft which causes its teeth to wear out. Damage to the planetary gear results in less than optimal RPM rotation on the ship's propeller. Damage to the planetary gear is carried out by checking it periodically while the ship is operating.Leaking clutch housing which causes lubricating oil to leak out and causes the temperature in the clutch housing to rise. The way to overcome this is by carrying out regular checks and replacing the rings and seals on the clutch housing so that it does not experience greater damage and does not damage other components so that repair costs do not increase.
