Abstract
The main topic of this paper is the berthing process of the LPG tanker MT. Gas Berau, owned by PT. Pelayaran Usaha Gas Elpindo. The author identified several background issues that needed to be addressed, including the berthing stages and technical constraints to support activities at the port. This study aims to examine the berthing stages in depth, identify frequently encountered technical and nontechnical constraints, and evaluate the smoothness of the vessel's berthing process. The research method used was descriptive qualitative, using direct observation, interviews, and literature review. The results indicate that the berthing process encompasses technical preparation, administrative coordination, ship pilotage, mooring, and LPG loading and unloading. The main obstacles encountered included administrative delays, technical damage to the vessel, and limited port facilities. This study recommends strengthening cross-sector coordination, improving port infrastructure, and periodically evaluating the risk management system. With continuous improvement, it is hoped that the ship berthing process will be safer, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly.
