Abstract

This study aims to identify and analyze the potential safety risks in the engine room of the KMP Batumandi using the Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) approach. FTA is used to map system failures in the right main engine, auxiliary engine II, and left main engine, as well as to identify failure causes that pose high risks to occupational safety. Furthermore, the Risk Priority Number (RPN) calculation is performed to determine the risk priority based on the Severity (S), Occurrence (O), and Detection (D) of each failure cause. The analysis results show that failures in the lubrication system, cooling system, fuel system, and damage to key engine components are the primary risk factors with the highest RPN value of 240, indicating that failures in these systems pose a significant risk to safety. Based on these findings, it is recommended to conduct routine maintenance on the lubrication and cooling systems, periodic inspections of key engine components, and cleaning and replacement of fuel filters. Additionally, safety training for the crew and the implementation of automated detection systems are also important recommendations to improve safety in the engine room. This study is expected to contribute to improving work safety and the smooth operation of the vessel by reducing the risk of failure in critical engine systems that pose safety hazards.
