Abstract

Indonesia is one of the countries with quite a lot of rivers, but the narrow and shallow river channels are an obstacle for large ships to enter the jetty. Therefore, the coal unloading process in Indonesia which has narrow and shallow rivers is carried out with the Transshipment system. Transshipment is the activity of transferring cargo from one ship to another, to continue the journey to the final destination. From the Transshipment activity there are several factors that inhibit the smooth transshipment process, to find out the transshipment process, it is necessary to conduct research that aims to identify the causes of delays in the Transshipment unloading process at PT. Mitra Bahtera Segara Sejati. The method used is observation with a qualitative approach, which explains the causes and effects of delays and the entire process of activities from the beginning to the impact. The results of the study showed that there were three main factors that caused delays, namely weather factors, coal quality, and barge drainage systems. The delay in the transhipment process has an impact on high fuel costs, increasing the workload of the tugboat crew, disrupting the shipping schedule and causing the tender of PT Mitra Bahtera Segara Sejati Company to decrease. Therefore, preventive efforts are needed to reduce operational risks and increase efficiency. Keywords: Transhipment, Unloading, Coal.
