Abstract
Oil Water Separator (OWS) is equipment used to separate oil from water, while the oil content that comes out before being discharged into the sea does not exceed 15 ppm (parts per million). The International Convention for the Prevention of Marine Pollution from Ships (MARPOL 1973/1978) was issued to address this case. Marpol Annex I Regulation details the discharge requirements for the prevention of pollution by oil and liquid. With provisions to equip marine pollution prevention devices with oil and water separators called Oil Water Separators (OWS), but its implementation often faces challenges in practice. The papers focused on the operation efficiency of the Oil Water Separator (OWS) in an effort to minimize marine pollution by ship. The papers aim to find out about the working process and operating steps, Plan Maintenance System of the Oil Water Separator (OWS) in an effort to minimize the occurrence of marine pollution by ship, and to find out the negative impacts caused if the Oil Water Separator (OWS) is not working optimally. The research method used is in interview with marine inspector and engineer because it describes how the operation efficiency of the Oil Water Separator (OWS) in an effort to minimize marine pollution by ship. The results of this papers are expected to provide practical guidance for shipping companies to improve the works and operation process, Plan Maintenance System of the Oil Water Separator (OWS) by ship, and knowledge of the negative impacts caused if the Oil Water Separator (OWS) is not working optimally.
