Abstract
As an archipelagic country, Indonesia faces a high risk of maritime accidents, making the readiness of Search and Rescue (SAR) fleets critically important. Inflatable boats equipped with outboard motors serve as key assets in rescue missions due to their speed and maneuverability. However, the performance of outboard motors depends heavily on their condition and maintenance. This study aims to identify the causes of damage, methods of fault detection, and steps for repairing and maintaining outboard motors used on KN. SAR Sadewa 231. The research methods include direct observation, interviews with ship crew, documentation, and literature review. The findings indicate that common damages occur in the fuel, cooling, ignition, and lubrication systems, as well as internal components such as pistons, piston rings, and propellers. Regular maintenance, including oil changes, filter cleaning, and electrical system inspections, is essential to maintain engine performance. Proper maintenance helps extend the engine’s lifespan and enhances the efficiency of SAR operations. Keywords: Outboard motor, engine maintenance, SAR, Basarnas.
