Abstract
The KN SAR Sadewa 231 vessel, operated by the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) of Indonesia, plays a crucial role in search and rescue operations in Indonesian waters. In the context of maritime safety, the presence of liferafts as rescue equipment is essential, given the high risk of accidents at sea. Liferafts serve to save lives in emergency situations, and according to the regulations of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), every ship is required to have and maintain this rescue equipment. This study aims to examine the optimization of the maintenance and operation of liferafts on the KN SAR Sadewa 231, focusing on three main aspects: the function of liferafts in emergency situations, the maintenance procedures that must be carried out regularly, and the methods of operating liferafts both manually and automatically. The data collection method used is qualitative, involving observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that liferafts function effectively as evacuation aids, that routine maintenance in accordance with procedures can enhance the reliability of the equipment, and that proper operation can be conducted using two methods: manual and automatic. Therefore, the optimization of the maintenance and operation of liferafts on the KN SAR Sadewa 231 is vital to ensure the safety of crew and passengers in critical situations. Keywords: Maintenance, Liferaft, SAR Sadewa 231
