Abstract
Maintenance of the main bearings on ship auxiliary generator engines is crucial to prevent wear that could impact the performance and lifespan of the engine. Main bearings function as supports and reduce friction between moving parts in the system, such as shafts and casings, which experience dynamic loads. Wear on the bearings can lead to increased friction, excessive temperatures, unstable vibrations, and ultimately cause more significant damage to machine components. In the context of ships, this can result in operational disruptions, such as generator downtime, and financial losses due to extended repair times. This study aims to explore appropriate and effective maintenance methods to prevent wear on main bearings in ship auxiliary generator engines. The discussed maintenance methods include selecting the appropriate bearing materials for operational conditions, optimal lubrication techniques to reduce friction, and regular inspections and maintenance to detect early signs of wear. Additionally, this research emphasizes the importance of replacing bearing components that have reached their wear limits to prevent more severe damage. It is expected that through the implementation of proper maintenance, the service life of the main bearings can be extended, machine efficiency can be improved, and maintenance costs and downtime can be minimized, ultimately enhancing the overall reliability of the ship's generator system. Keywords: Main Bearing, Crankshaft, Maintenance.
