Abstract
The National Search and Rescue Agency of Indonesia (Basarnas) has the primary duty of conducting the development, coordination, and control of Search and Rescue (SAR) resources in operations involving missing persons and property, as well as providing assistance during disasters and other emergencies, in accordance with national and international SAR regulations. Despite a growing awareness of Basarnas’s roles and responsibilities in conducting SAR operations, numerous incidents involving sunken fishing vessels and missing victims continue to occur. This paper aims to provide information and familiarization regarding structured and efficient procedures for rescuing victims of shipwrecks at sea. It also aims to identify the efforts carried out in the search and rescue process for such incidents. The methods applied include observation, interviews, and literature review. The results of this study outline a SAR operation framework consisting of three main phases: planning, searching, and evacuation. In a case involving a sunken vessel in the Java Sea, a conventional method was used by dividing the rescue team into two Search and Rescue Units (SRUs). SRU 1 conducted a surface search around the Scene of Maritime Casualty (SMC), while SRU 2 extended the surface search from the same location. As a result, the victims were successfully located and evacuated. Keywords: Vessel, Procedure, Search, Rescue, SAR.
