Abstract
This study aims to analyze the role of the Marine Inspectorate at the Port Authority Office of Tegal in enhancing maritime safety. Marine Inspectors hold a critical role in conducting technical inspections of vessels, verifying safety documentation, overseeing the implementation of operational safety standards, and providing recommendations for corrective actions to prevent maritime accidents. This research adopts a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing data collection methods such as interviews, field observations, and document analysis. The findings indicate that the Marine Inspectorate plays an active role in safety oversight through vessel inspections, safety equipment testing, and certificate verification. However, the implementation of the Marine Inspectorate’s duties faces several challenges, including limited qualified human resources, lack of supporting inspection facilities, resistance from shipping operators to regulations, and the continuous need to adapt to evolving national and international safety regulations. Despite these obstacles, the effectiveness of oversight is evident through the reduced number of maritime incidents and increased compliance with safety standards. This study recommends strengthening human resource capacity, providing adequate inspection facilities, improving the dissemination of safety regulations, and enhancing inter-agency coordination to support sustainable maritime safety at the Port of Tegal.
