Abstract
The cylinder head is part of a cylinder block that acts to close the cylinder cavity. where it is a combustion chamber. In the discussion about the cause of the cylinder head crack, the purpose is to find out the cause of the main engine cylinder head crack and to find out how to maintain and repair the main engine cylinder head at KM. Haida. The author's method of writing this scientific paper is a type of qualitative descriptive research. The data source was obtained directly from the research site in September 2024 to December 2024 by direct field observation of the research object, namely the HANSHIN MAN B&W 6L35MC Mother Engine by conducting direct maintenance and repair and interviews with ship crews and workers at the shipyard about the research object and indirectness by using existing data from journals. The results of this study are finding out the cause of the cylinder head crack of the main driving machine, finding out how to repair and treat the cylinder head that has a crack or damage, and with proper maintenance the cylinder head becomes more durable. The conclusions of this study show that the cracking in the cylinder head of the parent engine is due to several factors, i.e. the operating time of the cylinder head exceeding the recommended limit, the occurrence of further combustion resulting in overheating of the engine, and a subsequent combustion, and insufficient cooling system on the cylinder head.
