Abstract

Marine Inspector is a person who has special expertise in marine surveys who can conduct inspections, supervision, and examinations of ships to monitor and provide reports on the actual condition of the ship. Inspections usually include the condition of the ship and its components, engines and ship navigation equipment, communications, and ship safety equipment. This study aims to (1) To determine the role of the Marine Inspector in inspecting safety equipment on ships, (2) To determine the Marine Inspector's procedures in inspecting ship safety equipment correctly and in accordance with procedures, (3) To determine what obstacles are faced by the Marine Inspector in inspecting safety equipment. The research method used in this papers is the Qualitative Method. Qualitative research uses descriptive data from subjects and actors. Data collection techniques used in this papers use interview techniques, documentation studies, and literature studies. The informants in this papers were 1 Marine Inspector who worked under the Directorate of Shipping and Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Transportation. The results of this papers explain the Marine Inspector's procedures in inspecting safety equipment on ships. The procedure for inspecting shipping safety equipment is a series of steps supervised by a marine supervisor to ensure that all safety equipment on the ship is functioning properly and meets applicable safety standards. The procedures include Identification of safety equipment, Visual Inspection, Equipment Testing, Compliance Verification, Familiarization, Training, Report Preparation, and follow-up. As an appointed ship inspection officer, the Marine Inspector is required to follow the appropriate procedures and ensure that the safety equipment is functioning properly and the crew can use the safety equipment correctly and properly, so that the crew does not make mistakes in using the safety equipment so as not to cause panic and fear during an emergency situation.
