Abstract

KN. Karimun Jawa, as one of the State ships operating in Indonesian waters, has a great responsibility in ensuring the safety of its passengers and crew. Optimal lifeboat readiness not only contributes to saving lives, but also reduces the risk and impact of accidents at sea. Therefore, this study aims to optimize the readiness of lifeboats through drills leaving the ship. The formulation of the problem in this study covers three main aspects: first, how to practice lifeboats to leave the ship; second, things that need to be considered during training; Third, the obstacles faced by the crew during the exercise and the solutions that can be applied to overcome them. The research method used is direct observation of the training process, in- depth interviews with the crew, and analysis of documents related to SOPs that have been set. The results of the study show that the implementation of clear and consistent SOPs in training can significantly increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the evacuation process using lifeboats. Some important aspects that must be considered during the exercise include safety, coordination between crews, understanding of lifeboats, and good time management. Obstacles often faced by crew members during training include a lack of regular training, variations in understanding and skill levels among crew members, and weather conditions that do not support the solutions proposed in this study include increasing training frequency, developing a more comprehensive training program, and providing adequate resources to support training. Thus, this researcher is expected to make a significant contribution in improving the readiness and operational safety of lifeboats in KN. Karimun Jawa, as well as being a reference for other ship managers in implementing best practices in evacuation training. Keywords: Emergency, Training, Lifeboat, Safety
