Abstract
Training in the use of fire extinguishing equipment for ship crews is a crucial aspect of maintaining operational safety on SAR vessels. The KN SAR Permadi 249, as part of the National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) fleet in Surabaya, requires a skilled and responsive crew to handle fires and prevent greater risks. The purpose of this written work is to optimize crew training in the use of fire extinguishing equipment by identifying existing obstacles and developing strategies to enhance training effectiveness. The methods used in this writing include direct observation, interviews with crew members, and literature studies on fire training standards on ships. The results indicate that some of the main obstacles in training are time constraints, a lack of regular drills, and crew rotation that leads to inconsistencies in skills. To address these issues, strategies such as the implementation of micro-training methods, increasing the frequency of fire drills, and providing written guidelines for new crew members are necessary. With a structured and continuous optimization of training, the crew of KN SAR Permadi 249 can improve their preparedness in facing fires, thereby ensuring greater operational safety for the vessel.
